We woke up extra early hoping to be able to leave Waynesboro VA today. But it was still raining. We sat down to have our coffee and not long after that, the rain stopped and the sun came out. We hit the road.
At the entrance to the Shenandoah National Park we paid our $15 entry fee and entered the Skyline Drive. Here we were amazed at the landscape and the mountains. This is a more dramatic drive than the Blue Ridge Parkway. We stopped at several of the lookouts and while driving were lucky to have several encounters with deer, beavers, and a few pheasants.
The sun was shinning bright for the first part of the drive. By the time we got to Skyland, the highest point at 3680 ft, it had started to rain again and there was some fog too. Thankfully, it didn’t last long and we were able to finish driving the Skyline Drive today. We really wanted to finish it before any more bad weather hit again.
After exiting the Skyline at the north end, we went to Front Royal VA. We went to the visitor center, which was closed, so we drove around a bit while checking out the town. We needed to stretch our legs so we walked around a shopping center where we went to get some groceries.
Then we went back to the visitor center to park for the night. There was a laundromat right across the street, so we got to do our laundry tonight.
