Go!

We were in our seats and ready to go at 2 pm ... which is pretty early for us ... and so we left Austin TX today.

First, we drove northeast about 40 minutes to Louie Mueller BBQ in Taylor TX, a restaurant from the Diners, Drive-ins and Dives show on the Food Network. It was too early for us to eat, so we got our food to go. www.louiemuellerbarbecue.com

Then we drove another 4 hours or so, headed northeast on 79, and stopped at the Walmart in Jacksonville TX. We got some groceries and a couple movies from RedBox and then had our bbq dinner.

We had the bone-in pork shoulder and the bone-in rib eye steak. We had ordered one serving each of their side dishes: potato salad, baked beans, and coleslaw, but they forgot to give us the coleslaw.

The steaks were pretty good and very tender, but they had way too much black pepper for our taste. Their bbq sauce was too hot for us too and we had to add a bit of sugar to the baked beans because they were not sweet at all. All in all, not our kind of bbq ... unfortunately.

  1. Glad to hear you're on your way northeast again. We're looking forward to seeing you both again. Drive safe. See you in a few weeks. Janis

  2. I didn't know Louie had baked beans, are you sure you didn't get his pinto beans?

another great bar-b-q place is Coopers in Llano, Tex. You pick your own right off the Huge pits. Blackberry cobbler that is out of the world.
