Beignets!

Today our destination was the French Quarter. But on the way there we stopped first at Surrey Cafe, a juice bar featured on the show Diners, Drive-ins and Drives. They close at 3 pm every day so we wanted to get there before they closed.

When we got there and looked at their menu, we realized they have a lot of great breakfast dishes but we weren't hungry so we just got some juice to go. We went with one of the house specialties, a combination of cactus juice, pineapple juice, and lime juice. It was pretty good even though it tasted "green" and it's supposed to be really good for you. www.surreyscafeandjuicebar.com

Then we headed to the French Quarter. We spent the day visiting Bourbon Street, the French Market, and Jackson Square. This is certainly a very colorful place, with tons of interesting people on the streets.

We had some beignets and coffee for a midafternoon snack from Cafe Du Monde. The beignets were absolutely delicious and sticky and wonderful. It was really good coffee too. www.cafedumonde.com

When we were done, we headed towards Magazine Street to check out the next restaurant from the Diners, Drive-ins and Drives show. We parked on the street around the corner from Joey K's Restaurant, as there is no parking lot.

The place was packed, even though it was a Tuesday night so we had to wait a few minutes for a table. The hostess was very friendly, and so was our server. We split a small ceasar salad and the cheeseburger poboy sandwich. Both were very good. www.joeyksrestaurant.com

Then walking along Magazine Street we saw a place that caught our attention so we went inside. Sucre is a sweets boutique selling gelatto, cakes, chocolates, cookies, and all kinds of gourmet confections that look almost like art, too pretty to eat. We didn't get anything because we couldn't wait to get back to Bella to have the rest of the beignets from this afternoon, but it was very, very tempting. www.shopsucre.com (pictures to come. had to use different camera)

Then we decided to find The Green Project which Bernie wants to check out tomorrow when they open and we parked in their parking lot for the night.
